Top 7 benefits of LED lighting

There are many advantages to making the switch from conventional lighting to LED lighting, but it all starts with your business saving money. Here are the top seven reasons LED is a power-saving, smart solution for lighting.

#1 Long life span reduces your costs by up to 50-80%
Frequent lamp replacements can be costly and failed lamps can expose your business to liabilities. LED technology offers operating lives that are often over 100 times longer than those of incandescent sources and 20 times longer than that of fluorescent sources. With LED light sources, you can save a lot of money by using fewer light bulbs and less Operations & Maintenance (O&M) labor.
#2 Energy efficiency translates into energy savings
With traditional incandescent lightbulbs, 80% of the electricity delivered to the bulb is lost as heat and only 20 percent is actually converted into light. Today, LED’s are the most energy efficient lighting because they don’t waste electricity on heating up. This translates directly into your utility bill. If you spend $100 to light your room, traditional lightbulbs use $80 to heat up and $20 to create light. LED bulbs use that same $20 to create light and give your business back the other $80.
#3 Safer for you and the environment
While all artificial light creates UV emissions, LED’s produce less than any other bulbs. This makes them perfect for business lighting because they are safer to use in protecting artwork, carpets, window coverings and painted surfaces. Also, LED lights do not contain mercury, which is dangerous if the bulb is broken or disposed of inappropriately, and are 100 percent recyclable.
#4 Durability and maintenance ease
LED lights are the best choice for maintaining durable lighting. Because they are completely sealed and don’t use glass, they can withstand drops, shock, vibration and extreme temperature changes. They also don’t burn out leaving you in the dark, like a standard light. Instead, their lower light indicates it’s time to replace them, and gives you plenty of time to have a replacement on hand when you need it.
#5 Higher quality lighting
Perhaps one of the things about LED lighting that gets overshadowed the most is the fact that the lights provide vivid lighting while staying moderately cool. When you flip the switch on an LED light bulb, you get the full brightness right away. With LED’s, you can turn them on and off quickly as many times as you need without damaging the bulb or limiting the lifetime.
#6 More flexibility and lighting control
Different types of LED’s can be combined to give you complete control of your lighting environment. LED’s don’t require much. A low-voltage power supply is enough to get full LED illumination. This means minimal light loss and makes LED’s ideal for all sorts of commercial environments. LED lights deliver the light exactly where you want it to shine and without any flicker, buzz, or hum.
#7 May qualify for tax incentives
You may qualify for a tax deduction. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPACT) offered businesses tax deductions for the costs of improving the energy efficiency of commercial buildings. The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 extended provisions in EPACT. A tax incentive of up to $1.80 per square foot may be available, if your building was put into service before 2016, if it’s higher than four stories, and if you can prove it will save you at least 50% on energy costs. Smaller deductions are available ($0.60/square foot) if you don’t expect to save as much as 50% on energy costs.
